The Buckingham Murders Review: A Gripping Investigation into a Tragic Case

“The Buckingham Murders,” a crime thriller by Hansal Mehta, defies all conventions of Bollywood cinema. The plot will dive into elements of trauma, justice, and dark sides of human nature with the story of Sergeant Jasmeet “Jass” Bhamra, essayed by Kareena Kapoor Khan.

Jass is an efficient police officer who is still trying very hard to cope with the tragic death of her young son. Her next case, the disappearance of another child, drags her into a case much similar to her trauma.

Set against the backdrop of 2022 unrest between Hindus and Muslims in Leicester, the movie doesn’t hold back in skirting sensitive themes such as religious tension and prejudice. It deals with those things very restrainedly and thoughtfully; never heavy-handed, but engaging for viewers in its rendition of a story.

Kareena Kapoor Khan’s Unbridled Performance

Kareena Kapoor Khan as Jass is at once powerful and restrained in her portrayal. The protagonist’s gamut of emotional struggles, marked with loss and resilience, and the shades in-between come across well through the actor’s performance.

The supporting cast, comprising Ranveer Brar as Daljeet Kohli and Prabhleen Kaur as Preeti Kohli, enriches the film as they are totally riveting in their performance.

A Meandering Narrative

The pacing is purposefully slow in “The Buckingham Murders.” Rather than hurrying the investigation of the murder-some kind of rip-off from any inbred movie or television series-one gets to take the time to reveal the complexities of the case and immerse oneself fully into the drama unfolding.

Of course, this will not be for everyone, but it does build suspense and tension while creating a compelling atmosphere.

A Different Kind of Bollywood Experience

Unlike most Bollywood mainstreams, which rely on grandeur and spectacle, “The Buckingham Murders” is infinitely more nuanced, inward-looking in its cinematic feel and texture.

There are no shocking plot twists that many might have expected from a thriller of this sort, but that is where the storyteller’s strength lies in this film-it does carry emotional weight in its narration.

Contemplation of grief, justice, and humanity sticks to a viewer long after the movie is over. For those in need of something more contemplative and emotionally driven, “The Buckingham Murders” happens to stand tall among its contemporaries.

It gives a story not of the usual kind, etched by strong performances and conscious storytelling-one that is a standout for Indian cinema.
