Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video opens with a lot of promise, fun, and quirky characters galore. However, as the movie goes on, it ends up disappointing audiences by not living up to expectations.
Vicky Vidya ka Woh Wala Video: What is Though First Comedies?
The film brings us to 1997 Rishikesh, where we see a mehendi artist, Vicky, played by Rajkummar Rao, and his wife Vidya, played by Triptii Dimri, drive to Goa for their honeymoon.
It is such a simple promise that it makes us believe in the premise: Vicky, inspired by a newspaper article, gets Vidya on board to record their intimate moments, believing that this will make them closer.
The video gets stolen at one point during a robbery, and things then take a comedic turn. The first half works because of sharp writing, well-timed jokes, and the chemistry between the lead pair.
A vivacious Rajkummar Rao brings Vicky’s role alive with a spark of energy and loads of humor. The retro setting gives it a nostalgic feel; character dynamics is what makes the beginning interesting.
The second half stumbles, and somehow, the film doesn’t know how to maintain a smooth ride. The second half of the movie fails where Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video succeeded-having an interesting setup. What started as an exciting development develops into a long-drawn affair. Those full-of-life characters become predictable and very less fun-loving as the plot goes on.
The unnecessary subplots clutter the storyline and slow down the momentum of the film. To add humor into the otherwise dragging narrative, it forces some unwanted elements that over-complicate the twists.
The supernatural aspect added to this film, which is associated with the Maddock Horror Universe, seems incongruous for the kind of film this eventually becomes and ruins what could have been the original tone. The poor visual effects again do not add to the movie’s appeal and don’t serve the purpose of rescuing an already flaccid narrative.
Vicky Vidya ka Woh Wala Video: Cast and Performances
Rajkummar Rao is good with his role, but the script fails him considerably. His timing for comedy is apt, but a watery storyline and characters dampen his efforts.
Triptii Dimri, competent with very little room for performance, makes the more lacklustre character out of the two. Vijay Raaz, Mallika Sherawat, and Tiku Talsania make an effort to add humor but cannot save the weak script.
Music and Production
The music by Sachin-Jigar is passable but not especially memorable. Daler Mehndi’s number “Na Na Na Na Na Re” is something that holds some nostalgic value but does not make the experience any worthwhile.
The direction and production quality don’t add much toward overcoming the weaknesses of the screenplay, and the disjointedness of the film makes it unsatisfying.
Conclusion
Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video is one of those films that start with a lot of punch but lose their way in the end. The first half abounds with humor and fun, while the second half becomes disappointing.
However, it is just a few minutes of light-hearted comedy at the beginning of this movie that might delight you, but that’s it.
